“The Healing House”

During the first semester of my senior year, I did an internship at Readeezy, a New Jersey-based nonprofit that creates interactive, fully illustrated books for struggling readers. I was tasked with illustrating 45 pages for the book “The Healing House”, a mystery thriller revolving around troubled teens. From the 45 pages, I was additionally tasked with animating 5 of them, as well as creating a book cover and promotional materials for its release. Though I was initially given a manuscript and character descriptions, I otherwise had almost full creative control, and worked mostly independently in between the weekly check-ins with the client.

“The Wise Princess”

“The Wise Princess” was my thesis project, an illustrated adaptation of an 1886 short story by Mary de Morgan. Since I am frequently inspired by the English countryside, I wanted to illustrate and design something that utilized that sort of imagery. I did extensive research to attempt to find an obscure fairy tale, since I didn’t want to do a trite recreation of a widely known one, and eventually came across Mary de Morgan. I was particularly drawn to her life story, as well as the unique characteristics of her stories (i.e. strong female protagonists, anti-wealth/anti-consumerist themes, stark lack of happy endings). Thus, through the semester, I made a prototype of this short story of hers, which I then presented at the Pratt Design Show.

“Noodles, No!”

These are some of the pages, including a key scene, from my final project from my children’s book class, titled “Noodles, No!”. Once again inspired by my cat Noodles, it follows him getting into mischief with a raccoon after escaping from home. The book in its entirety has 32 pages, four of which were to be coloured.

“A Day Out in the City with Noodles the Cat”

I made this art book as my final project for my Image as Communication course, in which we were instructed to simply make a series of images that depicted a narrative. My concept was about an anthropomorphic cat having a leisurely day in NYC, loosely inspired by my cat Noodles’s desire to escape our house to explore the world
